Growth opportunities in Liverpool: The Government has welcomed a report from Lord Heseltine and Sir Terry Leahy on the opportunities available for growth in Liverpool and surrounding areas.

Government's Chief Construction Advisor: Paul Morrell has been re-appointed as the Government’s chief construction adviser by Business Minister Mark Prisk.

Electronics Industry growth: A new strategy to grow the UK's power electronics industry and increase its share of the £135 billion global market was published by Mark Prisk.

Financial Reporting Council: A consultation proposing the refocusing and streamlining of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) is being launched by BIS and the FRC.

Science & Technology

Best research base in UK: The UK is a world-leader in science and research, according to a new report being launched by Universities and Science Minister David Willetts at a Science Council lecture on research impact.

Science & Technology Facilities Council: Business Secretary Vince Cable announced the appointment of Professor John Womersley as Chief Executive of the Science and Technology Facilities Council, with effect from 1 November.

Technology Strategy Board: Vince Cable announced four new appointments at the Technology Strategy Board. The newly-appointed board members are Colin Paynter, Ian Shott, Robert Sorrell and Mike Carr. They will serve until 30 June 2014.

Migration and Environment change: A new international report, published today by Foresight, reveals that the major challenges associated with migration and environmental change have been underestimated.

UK Space Agency

UK Space Strategy: David Willetts announced the secondment of Professor Keith Mason to the UK Space Agency. He will advise on steps needed to leverage the research base to maximise the economic growth of the space sector.
